"Urf Professor" - Brave Work By Brave Director.

What do you think if i say who is "Pankaj Advani"? 90 percent answers will be "Snooker Player", and if i exclude snooker player from "Pankaj Advani", then probably most of the answer will be "i don't know", Lemme tell you who was that guy. He was one of director who tried to bring the dark comedy in bollywood, and obviously it didn't worked because of censor board, Now i'm not getting into what the board should and shouldn't do, but i like to say something about his work.

I don't know how many of you have watched "Sankat City", That's the movie pankal directed, and mind you it was brilliantly directed by pankaj, Till then i didn't know about his other movie which was "Urf Professor", I saw it when one of my friend recommended and i was absolutely amazed from what i saw. The director made this movie in 2001 and obviously it didn't make to theaters but it is out to download in this year.

What i like about this movie is boldness and the brave dialog from the actors. You could imagine the gravity of comedy or i would say situational comedy that this could possibly amongst the top 3 best comedies made in bollywood in last 3 to 4 decades, It's almost at par with "Jaane bhi do yaaron", Some of the scenes don't make you smile but it make you laugh your arse over. The movie actually takes off with a pre-suhaag raat scene where the groom(Bakul Thakker) decides and explain with the bride(Benica) that they should open up and reveal their past secrets. It's looks like "Alright I've seen this scenes" but the moment bride opens her mouth and tells the story of her pre-marital affairs the scene goes berserk.

I mean when was the last time you end up listening to a woman on hindi cinema daring to say that "I had an affair with a boy who had twelve inch C*ck" and "And there was twins called ajay/vijay who sandwiched me while their mother watch and enjoy" , Try to imagine the dialogs in hindi, and no-sir I'm not talking about the porn. The act changes so frequently that you wouldn't even remember the charm of previous one because the new portion/act has something extra to deliver.

There was a scene where the husband in first act hires a professor(Pahwa) to kill his wife, and he works with his accomplice called Hudda(Yashpal sharma) who was the best character in the whole movie, So in that particular scene the professor enters the hotel to kill the wife who was suppose to be in swimming pool but professor forgot his glass and can't see the photograph, so he become confused, because there were lot's of women there, so he called hudda for help and hudda then calls the husband for the description, and boss that 10 min scene was so brilliantly written and executed by those three actors that you won't resist to see that again.

There was no story structure, no prototyped formula but you still make the bond with the movie, Though it didn't hit the theaters but it's already gaining applauds in underground cult. All i can say is "Urf professor" is movie which bollywood missed for 9 odd years.

RIP "Pankaj Advani"

I-Rock 2010, Sheer Fun :)

Here I come again on blogging world again, Here’s little outing cum review of I-Rock 2010.

The much anticipated and awaited event arrived on evening of 5th December, It was 25th anniversary of “Independence Rock” which was held at the Chitrakoot grounds, Andheri East. Don’t get confused with the venue name, It might sound like the venue where all the spiritual, Bhajan Sandhya things are organized but it was spiritual in Rock way.

Me and my room-mate Praveen arrived at venue 2 hours earlier, We were anticipating huge crowd by then but to our disappointment it was countable number of rock enthusiast wearing all the t-shirts of “System Of The Down”, “Disturbed”, “Cannibal Corpse” and “Dimmu Borgir” , I even saw one guy wearing “Boyzone” but hey we all love music. We waited for an hour to one of my friend Mohit Sharma who actually manage all the passes and he was the “Odd Man Out” in that crowd, Dude was wearing “Slash” t-shirt but of white color, He loves to be different.

By 4 we were expecting to be in the ground, but it was 4.30 and still no sign of any announcement to let the audience in, but the crowd was started to gather in huge number. The line was also getting pretty long. Fortunately we were not much behind. We were all hearing the sound checks and the junta was getting desperate to get in, so was we. By 5 the announcement come to let us in and we all hurried to snatch the front line which was about to getting angry soon. As we came forward to stage we saw “Bhayanak Maut” was getting ready which gives some confusion since it said on the pass that “Pralay” was supposed to play first, because of that many came late and were pretty pissed about missing “Bhayanak Maut” in action.

Anyways “BM” started singing and growling by 5 and the audience was pretty quiet in couple of songs, I guess everyone was waiting for “BM” to say “Start the Mother-Fu***ng Mosh”, and as soon as that happen the ground turned to battle-Field, It was the most insane Mosh I’ve ever seen in my life and I decided not to go in it, I guess that was wise-decision. By that time “BM” was destroying the place with sheer growling power, it was treat to watch “BM” performing.

Next band was “Pralay” which for me was pretty sad band at that time, They might be good band but somehow “BM” performance overpowers whatever good stuff they had, They played “For whom the bell tolls” which was seriously bad and for that one of the member get’s bottled. It was then time to Mumbai’s favorite band “Scribe” and they didn’t disappoint the crowd. The presentation of band members was gripping and the USP was the air band competition with “BM” band members, it was tremendous fun.

It was “Demonic Resurrection” who came on stage and as usual they rock the whole ground, By that time I was taking rest but judging by crowds response it was one hell of performance, Things seems to be slowed down as Axetortion took stage, we thought it was like “Pralay”, but the way they lifted the performance was extraordinary. Sometime the crowd need the Covers to be played and they did it with style, Mind it they don’t have vocalist, Their guitars were doing all the vocals, they played “We Will Rock You” and the “Mission Impossible” theme song, which was pretty different and fun.

By that time I need to leave the ground but I heard the other band and members like Loy, Ehsaan, Shazneen, Mr Wadia, Warren, made the crowd more insane, I really missed “Indus Creed” which was the best thing in the whole concert which I heard stopped by our own police because of some time constraints, But hopefully some of my friend can write comments about “Indus Creed” performance.
